Back in the nineties, in the southeast, Atlanta was as global as it got when it came to shopping and sourcing, and back then it was well – still lacking in a lot of retail’s future ways. I was always forced to get creative and find things in catalogs pre-internet order days. Catalogs! The first time I found Benefit Benetint and Boiiing! concealer in that huge old paper Neiman Marcus catalog, I was ecstatic! Access. Via snail mail. So when my first trip to France happened (well before online was anything more than a novelty) you can only imagine what happened in my brain the day my feet first entered a French pharmacy. Products, hard-to-find amazing ones, for rows and rows and rows. You might call it a watershed moment.
My hair had become suddenly dry there in France for the first time in my life. Before that it had always been very oily, so while to this day I have no idea what caused it to dry up like the sahara, I suddenly had the need for moisturizing shampoo, and not the kind that makes your hair go flat. The bottle I chose was Phyto Phytojoba Chevreaux Secs and it was thick creamy yet gel-ish texture housed a really heavy glass bottle (I brought about six of those heavy glass bottles home with me, among many other things…the lack of luggage charges back then also dates me.)
The same formula sits on the side of my bathtub today (do we have to say how many years later? let’s not.) The same amazing scent, the shampoo that’s the perfect mix of hydration and supplier of natural volume. The bottle is a bit more modern and practical now, but the formula is still exactly the way I like it, perfect. I truly love this formula forever. It never weighs the hair down, it softens, it nourishes, and best of all, it smells like Paris.
